The second room - baroque pharmacy

The second room includes original furniture of the hospital pharmacy that has been manufactured and installed around the end of the 40’s in the 18th century. The room therefore introduces a baroque pharmaceutical office of the 18th century. Apart from an original brass mortars zippered with a symbol of the MB order (a halved pomegranate with a cross erected on it and a crown of thorns and a star above it) and with the date of its origin, there is an interesting collection of bronze and iron mortars also from other pharmacies. There is an iron repoussé pomegranate tree located on the pharmacist’ worktable, the counter for dispensing of medicines. Medicaments were produced on this table based on the medical prescriptions provided by the patient of his courier. Several production tools, hand-operated small balances, string, scissors and other thing were being hanged on the branches of the pomegranate tree. A head of a mystical unicorn is hanged above the entrance door of the pharmacy. His horn (but a narhwal in fact) was supposed to be an excellent antipode, i.e. a medicine against the effects of poisons.
