The fifth room - "columned" room

New exposition of Czech Pharmaceutical Museum
Since 9th June 2001 CPM extended the recent exposition by this room.

Handmade laboratory machines (machines for the production of pills, fillers for ointments, machines for sterilization etc.) and functioning industrial machines like a machine for the production of tablets and a mixer for ointments and pastes are presented in the fifth, vaulted (“columned”) room. A high stoneware percolator presents the production of tinctures and extracts, while a portable iron small oven presents the production of Theriacs (treacles), potions and plum jams. Table glass cases concentrate samples of several kinds of application forms of medicaments and also several healing specialties of the prominent Czech pharmaceutical companies. The second line follows military medicine with archival and picture documents and travel first-aid kits that are similar to military ones. A sculpture of a white lion and a large renaissance mortar introduce the part dedicated to controlling activities (analytic scales, refractometers, microscopes etc.), chemical machines (machines for distillation, Kipp’s machine etc.). Busts of ancient philosophers introduce scientific research. Publications by teachers at pharmaceutical faculties are presented in the glass extendable cases. It is also possible to find here proofs of pharmaceutical wholesale trade and of corporate activities.
